CSS Or Tables In Web Development

Website development leaves the developers with two options, whether to use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) or tables. Websites use either of these two styles in the development process. Web developers can choose to use any of the two. The question now is what style is better?

Cascading Style Sheets and tables both have their own sets of advantages and disadvantages. Web developers need to look at the pros and cons first before deciding which web layout to use. This is to ensure that they don’t get messed up half way.

Although Cascading Style Sheets or CSS can be time consuming, its benefits are worth the time spent. It offers great positioning flexibility. It can also make the pages load fast. This can be achieved by keeping the HTML and text proportionately low. Graphics can also be made to load after the content. This allows the site visitors to view the content without having to wait a long time for the graphics to be downloaded.

In terms of web development, cascading style sheet is a good choice. However, there is also a disadvantage in the use of CSS. It is supported by new browsers but not usually by older browsers.

Pros And Cons Of Table Layout

Many web developers are still using table layouts because it is easy to use. It is the usual layout used in developing websites. Even with the introduction of CSS, some web developers still prefer to use the tables because of its simple usage. However, tables can cause layout dysfunctions especially when viewed on different browsers.

When using tables in website layout, web developers must be very careful. One wrong code can lead to a dysfunction in the way the page is viewed. So the codes must be carefully set to ensure that the pages are viewed exactly according to the web developer’s plans.

CSS Or Tables?

The question is which is the better layout to use, CSS or tables? The answer is whichever you feel comfortable working with. You can’t force yourself to use cascading style sheets if you are used to tables or vice versa. It will be easier to use a layout that you know by heart rather than do what everybody else’s doing. Just because you see everyone’s using CSS now doesn’t mean you should use it as well. The same thing goes for the tables.
