Internet Marketing Advice

Website’s colour can either attract or send site visitors away. It can also make a website look either professional or amateur. It can build a website’s credibility or break the like. Colours, simple as they may seem, have huge effect on the overall performance of a website.

A website offering web design services, for instance, won’t be able to build its credibility if its colours are so dull and unattractive. Potential customers may think the same colours will be used on their websites. If they aren’t attracted with the site’s colours, they will not trust the website. They will think the website is poor at web design.

Colours Matter In Web Design

A large percentage of the website’s attractiveness depends on the colours. Therefore, colours have a direct affect on the decision of the site visitors whether to stay or leave. Web designers must be aware of the importance of colours to ensure they make use of this web design element effectively.

A website looks good when all the colours exist in harmony. The colours should not be too dull yet not too striking as well. Site visitors should not have a hard time looking at the web pages. Some overly bright websites make web page browsing too hard for site visitors.

Choosing Website Colour

When deciding for website colour, there are some basic rules to remember. Here are some of the rules in choosing website colour:

  • Go for light and cool colours. Don’t use dark or overly bright colours as they may be hurting to the eyes.
  • Black text over white background works best. If you are not so sure about your colour combination, go safe with black and white. The text should always be darker than the background.
  • Use colours that go in harmony with the company or website’s logo. Don’t make the logo appear out of place in the website’s colour. Colour harmony makes site visitors associate the logo with the company and on the other hand, associate the website with the company or logo.
  • Contrast colours are good for text and background. This makes the text appear visible. Use complementary colours when combining colours for background alone.

Web design is composed of several elements working together to make the website appear attractive and professional. Among the many elements, one that is oftentimes ignored yet so important is the colour. When doing a web design project, always consider the colour for it can make a difference in the website.
