Internet Marketing Advice

One of the most important factors that influence an online user to purchase something online is the quality of the user experience. The experience they have on your website reinforces their decision to either purchase or leave your website. Contrary to what other webmasters believe, it is not always the price nor the brand that makes a site visitor perform a positive response.

Because of this, it is crucial that webmasters improve the performance of their websites to ensure that the site visitors will get a positive experience. This can be achieve through usability tests. But usability tests cost a lot, right? Well, not at all times. Here are some guidelines in usability testing without the cost:

  • Identify the goals you want to test.

  • The first thing to usability testing is identification. Identify the goals and the factors that you want to test or measure. What is it that you want your site visitors to do in your website? Do you want them to purchase? Or sign up? After listing the goals, order them by importance. Test them one by one starting from the most important or the top priority.

  • Choose The Testers

  • In choosing a tester for your website’s usability, find people who are not familiar with your website. If you can, find people who haven’t visited your website yet. Their experience and opinion count because they effectively represent your unique site visitors.

  • Usability Testing

  • Let the testers experience browsing your website. Tell them what you want them to achieve. Let them look for the products you are selling or the services you are offering. While they do this, you should observe. Remember to let them browse by themselves. This tests the usability of your website in the hands of a unique site visitor. Then ask them questions for evaluation. From this, you can gauge how usable your website is. Try the test with the other goals as well.

Conclusion

If the result of the usability test is impressive – meaning your testers have reached their goal without difficulty– then, congratulations, you have a usable website. However, if your testers have found some difficulties in browsing the website, you should further improve the usability of your website.

There is no perfect website, but if you can make yours user friendly, why not? The key to get better conversion rate is to provide your site visitors with a good browsing experience. To ensure your website isn’t lacking on usability, test it!
