Web marketers can relate to the importance of links in building website’s credibility and in increasing its search engine ranking and popularity. Most of them think that the style or the type of the link doesn’t really matter as long as there are links pointing to their website.

But the search engines put value in the style and type of links used. In link building, web marketers should be careful and selective in their choice of link style. The different types of links get diverse value from the search engines. What are the different types of links?

The Types Of Links

Here are the most common types of links. There may be more as the internet provides room for free styles but presented are what most web marketers and link builders are actually using:

  • Anchor Link

  • With the anchor link, the web marketer can create an anchor text that speaks about the content of the target page. The anchor text must be highly relevant to its target page; otherwise, it will be considered link spamming. This is highly recommended since web marketers can optimize the anchor text. They can use keyword enriched anchor texts.

  • Hyperlinked Title

  • The hyperlinked title is a type of link where the link title is the direct linking area. Online users can click on the title to go to the link’s target page. Same with the anchor link, web marketers can optimise the title of the link.

  • Hyperlinked Description

  • With this type of link, the website description is hyperlinked. This means the online users click on the entire description to reach the link’s target page. With this type of link, there is usually a limit in the number of characters to include in the description.

  • URL

  • This is one of the most common types of link. There may be a website title and description but the direct link to the target page is the URL. There is not much optimisation option on the link since you cant change the name of the URL although you can still optimise the description.

  • Dynamic & Static

  • This type of link is inserted on a dynamically generated web page. Although they add to a website’s link popularity, they don’t have much value especially with the search engines. On the other hand, a Static Link is one that is placed on an optimized page with plain URL. They are valuable in the eyes of the search engines.

These are the different types of links. They have different descriptions and they also differ in worth. However, the fact remains that all these types of links contribute to a website’s link popularity. How about yours, what type of links point to your website?
