Effective Tips for Web DesignersHome > Resources > Other Resources > Web DesignWhoever said that web designing is as easy as ABC sure doesn’t have a better understanding of it. There are several stuffs to consider in web design. It is not always the appearance of the website that matters. The design of a certain website must contribute to the total visibility, popularity and profitability of the entire website. A website may look appealing on a specific browser; however, if you try to open the site on other browser, the view may already be different. This clearly shows that web designing is not at all an easy process. To help web designers cope up with the complexity of web designing, here are some helpful reminders and tips.
Remember that a website that is not navigable is of no use; even if it is attractive and appealing in terms of design. Navigability should always precede appearance. It is important that your design helps your visitors to go over the entire site. It should guide them, not lose them in an artistic dilemma of where to go. Avoid stuffing your website with loads of images since images are large files. It is true that images enhance the look of your website but too much of it will make your visitors leave. Consider the fact that a large percentage of your users may use dial up connection. Images will take so long to open; so in most cases, visitors just leave your site and proceed on other sites that load faster. Avoid using Java as a graphics front end for the images on the site. Java applets will take some time to load and that may bore your visitors. Aside from this, Java can actually crash some browsers. You can still use Java; however, be careful to use it with discretion. A navigation bar (as long as it is functional) is very useful in guiding your visitors and users across all paths within a particular website. It does the trick of getting your visitors stay and browse around your site. Font may be a small detail as others may think but it contributes on the navigability of your website. As much as possible, use plain vanilla fonts. Examples of these are Arial, Tahoma, Courier and Verdana. Tables take some time to load and within the duration of its loading, visitors merely see a blank page (especially when the whole page is within a table). This may bore them and cause them to leave your site. To remedy this, you can split the table into two. The first table should be a short table that will load up faster. The first table may carry the header. The second table contains the rest of the data. This way, visitors will be able to see the first part of the table as they wait for the second one to load. Web design is an important factor that website administrators must take into consideration during the optimization process. One last reminder that may be over spoken of but still proves to be effective is this: Keep your design Simple. The simpler, the better. Web Design is not an easy thing to do. It requires skills and mastery to be able to do it right. If you need assistance in web designing, please contact our skilled Web Designers or see our Web Design Service. |
