Google Detects Invalid Clicks

Seasoned advertisers can relate to the reason why Google sometimes ban some AdSense publishers. Invalid clicks are becoming more common on the online advertising world. This is the reason why Google has to ban some publishers. What makes Google think that a particular click is invalid? How does Google define invalid clicks?

What is an Invalid Click?


Google has its own standards of determining whether a click is valid or not. If the clicks generated on the ad appears to be done just to increase the advertiser’s advertising, they are considered invalid. In the same manner, if the clicks are not manually done – meaning they are generated by automated tools or robots -, they are also considered invalid.

These are the two standards by which Google tells that a particular click is invalid. Once Google finds a large number of invalid clicks on a particular ad, it does have a good ground to ban the publishers. Though these publishers can somehow reinstate their AdSense account, most of the time they are not allowed to do so.

Since Google detects invalid clicks, is there a way you can know where the invalid clicks are coming from? No! This is due to the fact that Google choose to keep all the details in private. Why? In order to protect its right over its invalid clicks detection technology. So there is no way you will be able to know who’s clicking on your ad untenably. But how does Google actually detects invalid clicks?

Detecting Invalid Clicks


How does Google know if a particular click is invalid? Google AdSense team has three effective tools that they use to detect the validity of clicks. These tools tell them if a certain click is invalid. What are these tools?

  • Google Team

  • Google team is capable of using the tools to determine the validity of clicks. They master some sort of techniques relevant in the detection process. Every time Google system detects an invalid click, one member of the team will validate the results and checks on the affected account.

  • Detection Tool

  • Every click on an ad is examined by Google system. Every time a click is done, Google records the IP address from which the click comes from. It also checks the time of the click, if it has duplicate clicks and the unique click pattern. These aspects are what Google uses to detect and filter invalid clicks.

  • Monitoring Tool

  • Google uses a software that could actually track and monitor invalid clicks. This is a technological advancement that Google utilizes in order to protect the ads and the advertisers.

If you have an AdSense account that has been suspended or banned by Google, you can actually make an appeal to Google – especially if you have no idea how your ad came up with invalid clicks. Even though the fact remains the same that you will not know where the invalid clicks are coming from, at least now you know why Google considered the click as invalid and how it was able to detect it.
