Pay per click or PPC advertising is a popular medium to generate targeted website traffic and get higher online sales. Most web marketers use PPC advertising in their marketing endeavours due to its many benefits. What most web marketers and online advertisers fail to notice is that PPC is also a great medium to build a company’s brand or mark online.

When you advertise on pay per click search engines, your ads will appear on the visible portion of the search results. Through the PPC search engines, your ads will be seen over and over again every time your keywords are searched for. This means your target market will be able to see your ads and the name of your company.

Some web marketers and online advertisers fret over too many impressions and low number of clicks. But look at the other side of the coin. A great number of impressions can build your company’s brand and name online. Although of course, nothing beats a click for every impression.

Online branding through PPC advertising will depend on the frequency of the ads’ appearance on the search results and the percentage of your target market which the ads have served. The idea behind this PPC branding is that your target market, even if they don’t click your ads, will be able to see your ads again and again.

Once they get to see your ads many times, they will somehow get familiar with the name of your company. This means, the next time they searched for the same keywords and presented with your ad, most likely they are going to click it. You can’t expect a click on the first impression. It may take at least 10 appearances on the same person before he will actually click on your ad.

It is just like the other advertising media. Take television for instance. The ads are played over and over again. When people see the same ads always, they get familiar with it. They won’t try the product the first time they see it on a television ad, but they will most probably try it after seeing it many times aired on TV.

The same thing works with the internet. The key is frequency. The more times your ads are visible, the more your company will be known by your target market. This is the good thing about PPC. What other online advertisers consider as negative can still deliver positive effects.
