Measuring your marketing return on investment or ROI and conversion rate is one way of measuring success. To gauge whether your marketing efforts are paying of, you need to track and measure conversion and ROI. How do you go about the measuring process? It can be simplified using the following keys:

  • Identify whether your internet marketing campaign has met your goals.

  • There should be a clear goal in setting up your website. The goal depends on the kind of website. It could be to sell something, to provide research materials or even to generate funds through donations.

After defining your website’s goal, you should analyze whether your website has completed that goal. Are your site visitors doing what you want them to do? Are your marketing strategies hitting the goal? Are your advertising techniques brings you closer to reaching that goal?

  • Identify the value of your leads.

  • Once you know your goals are met, the next question you should address would be: what is the value of your leads? You should measure its worth. It could refer to money if your website is selling products and services.

To get the worth of your website’s leads, you should do some computations. If you sell products, get the number of leads and the average worth of the conversion. If the number of leads converted to customers is 30% and the average worth of conversion is $500, the worth of your lead would be $150. It was computed by multiplying the average leads with the average worth of the conversion. Please see below illustration:

Average Leads (30%) X Average Conversion ($500) = value of the Lead ($150)

  • Identify the number of times your marketing goal was achieved.

  • It is vital that you know how many times your goal was achieved or how many times a site visitor was converted to customer. To do this, you need data including the number of times you web pages are visited and the conversion rate. There are internet marketing tools that can help you do gather these data.

You should also consider the cost of your internet marketing campaign. Computing the cost and the worth of your campaign will give you data about your return on investment. Is your campaign giving you more returns?

Measuring your website’s marketing success is crucial to ensure that you are not just wasting your time, money and effort on strategies that aren’t working on your website. It can also help you define better strategies.
