Webmasters may have read Google’s Webmaster Help Center entirely but are they following the guidelines. Not all I bet. And if there are a hundred webmasters in all, 50 need refresher information on Google’s guidelines. Here are the basic guidelines for webmasters as indicated by Google. It helps to review them once in a while – so you won’t forget them!

Basic Google Guidelines For Webmasters

You may have overlooked these guidelines and suggestions but it’s never too late, right?

  • Title and ALT Tags Must Be Descriptive And Accurate

  • Don’t just place keywords on the page title, make sure that the keywords you place on the page title are accurate for the page. Search engine optimizers must understand that the keywords on the page title must also show up in the main body of the page. Otherwise, it can trigger a red flag from Google. Under what offense? Manipulating Google’s algorithm!

  • Less Than 100 Links on A Page

  • Make sure you only place a hundred or less links on a particular page. This is an obvious guideline that is easy to follow but not all webmasters do. A particular page must have no more than a hundred outbound links, or you take the risk!

  • Web Design Guideline

  • Web designers are encouraged to use simple HTML text in the headings instead of images. Try using uniform fonts on the same page as possible. Multiple fonts used on a single page may not be perfect in terms of the readability of the page. Cascading Style Sheets or CSS is a good option in providing your website with the look that you like without compromising the codes and search engine readability format.

  • Use 301 Redirects If A URL Has Changed.

  • Webmasters should inform their site visitors if a URL in the website has been changed. Gone are the days of the “meta refresh command” so use the 301 Redirect. Although the two redirect methods can bring your site visitors to the new page, Google still emphasizes the use of 301 Redirect.
