SEO Myths Explained

Search Engine Optimization specialists can relate to confused clients requesting for pages that they believe will improve their site in general. They have set their beliefs on SEO myths that they don’t exactly understand. Although these beliefs may have a grain of truth in them, they will be useless if taken into consideration without thorough understanding.

  • A different algorithm is used by different search engines.

  • Algorithm here refers to the formula followed by search engines to determine the ranking a particular web page. This means that the “regular pages” won’t generate a high rank in all of the search engines.

It is true that search engines have different algorithms and at times, they change their existing formulas. There are those who try to cracks the algorithms to get higher rankings for each search engine. And there are also specialists who analyze search engine results and statistics carefully to find out the algorithm of a certain search engine.

What’s not good in cracking algorithms and crafting gateway pages is that every time a search engine changes its algorithm, you will go over the entire process again. And this is an endless process, aside from the fact that it will be time consuming – having to optimize a gateway page painstakingly then change it again after a new algorithm is in place.

What do you need to do in order to get high rankings in all of the search engines then? The truth is this: no matter how these search engine’s algorithms differ, they all take into consideration the importance, relevant content and navigability of your pages; so work on these. With these, you won’t need to crack algorithms.

  • The use of flash animation and graphics in lieu of the content.

  • Flash animation and graphics hinder the search engines in determining what a particular site is all about. Why? Search engines mainly rely on the title tags and the links to identify the site’s content. Flash animation and graphics covers the real content of the page. The use of these won’t actually give a certain page high ranking and traffic. Remember that the best way to know all about the page is through its content.

Webmasters must never go astray from the original purpose of the site, to sell the product or service. Flash animations and graphics sure add appeal to a page, but it can be time consuming especially for those users who still on a dial up connection.

However, this does not mean that you should totally remove flash animations and graphics on a certain page. You can still make use of them but not to the extent that the content will be sacrificed.

  • There is a difference between copy for search engines and site visitors.

  • Other clients request for doorways and gateways thinking that there is a great difference between a good copy for the search engines and a copy for the visitors. What webmasters need to do instead is write keyword rich copy that will be beneficial for the site visitors and still stresses relevant keywords/keyword phrases. All you need is a little technique to combine what your visitors need and what the search engines want.

  • Use a different site for SEO.

  • There is certainly no need for another site for search engine optimization. Instead you need to optimize the actual site. You can do this by creating relevant website content. With relevant content, the site will have more inbound links and gradually get higher ranks.

These beliefs may have points of truth in themselves; but it pays to understand them better to avoid deception.

Optimizing a page needs in-depth analysis of what is true and what’s not. For more information on how to optimize your pages, please see our SEO Services or apply for a free SEO Analysis.
