Search Engine optimisation

The sign up page of your website is where money starts coming in. More than often, it determines the success and the sales of your website. It is the point where your site visitors decide to try your services. Because of its importance, you may know by now that getting your sign-up page abandoned is the worst mistake you can make as a webmaster.

A sign up page must be well optimised to ensure that the site visitors will not abandon it. Sign up page abandonment can be attributed to many factors like it requires too much time, the colours aren’t right or the page isn’t optimised. To avoid sign up page rejection, follow these simple strategies:

  • Sign Up Page Must Be Simple.

  • Just like anything else, simplicity is beauty. Don’t require too many information from the customer. If the form will take a long time to complete, the customer will simply leave it. Try using a sign up page that requires e-mail address only. The other information can be optional. You can get other information after the sign up.

  • Required Fields must be clearly marked.

  • If you require specific information, mark it with either an asterisk or a yellow background. This is to avoid signing up repeatedly. Some visitors may fill up the form and fail to fill up a required item. Upon submission of the form, they will be required to start all over again. Some may not start filling up your form but leave immediately.

  • Use soft colours on the sign up page.

  • Loud colours may be visually attractive but in a page where focus is needed, it can be visually hurting. Site visitors will not take the risk filling up a form that hurts their eyes. Webmasters must use soft colours on the sign up page to avoid being offensive and visually hurting.

  • Highlight the benefits of signing up.

  • If you have already tackled the benefits of signing up on the other pages of the website, you must repeat the main points on the sign up page. Give at least one or two main benefits of signing up and place it on a visible portion of the sign up page. You can bold the main points for better emphasis.

  • Provide a simple unsubscribe option.

  • Some site visitors are afraid to commit on a subscription without knowing how to unsubscribe. To avoid sign up page abandonment because of this, you must state a clear and simple option for those who want to unsubscribe from the service.

  • Referral Strategy

  • To maximize the benefits of your sign up page, include an easy to use referral option. Place something like “refer to a friend” or “tell a friend”. This is an easy way to reach more potential customers. This will also make it easier for your site visitors to share your services with their friends and acquaintances.

These web marketing techniques will help you maximize the benefits of a sign up page. At the same time, it will you minimize the number of sign up page abandonment in your website. After all, the life of your website may depend on the sign up page.
