Whether you blog for the fun of it or you plan to earn from it, you need readers. A blog is useless if no one reads it. One of the major goals of all blogs is to have maximum number of readers. The more the merrier, as they say.

Writing content for a blog is not an easy task. It takes a creative mind and thorough research to actually come up with quality blog content. All the writing efforts will be put in vain if the blog gets no visitor. Then how can you get readers for your blog?

One of the most effective ways to get more visitors to your blog is to make it visible and popular on the search engines. The search engines are the top sources of traffic. If your blog enjoys a top rank position or placement on the search engines, it will definitely receive more visitors. Thus, it is crucial that you make your blog visible on the search engines. But how?

Do’s Of Blogging

Here are some of the things that you have to work on if you want your blog to climb its way to the top of the search engine results pages or SERPs:

  • Always add quality content to the blog. The content must be relevant to the blog’s target readers. Don’t blog about your opinion on political issues when you are blogging on sports. The content must always be relatively connected to the blog’s overall topic.
  • Optimise the blog. Research on the keywords that you want your blog to rank high for. Use these keywords in your posts. Just remember to use the keywords reasonably to avoid keyword stuffing issues.
  • Research about your target readers. Find out what your target readers want to read about. In blogging, always write what the readers want to read and not just anything that you want to talk about.
  • Use a sitemap to make crawling and spidering of your blog easy for the search engine spiders.
  • Always update your blog with new optimised content. The search engines love new content and this will also help for faster and regular spidering of the blog.

Don’ts Of Blogging

If there are do’s, there are also don’ts in blogging. Here are some of them:

  • Do not consider the idea of spamming the search engines by using tricks like keyword stuffing and joining link farms. If you have to get inbound links for your blog, do it the natural way.
  • Do not post content that you get from other blogs. This is a serious case of duplicate content and plagiarism as well.
  • Don’t use frames in your blog. The search engine spiders can’t crawl on framed pages.
  • Don’t use JavaScript as much as possible.

Well, here they are, the do’s and don’ts of blogging. Keep them in mind and your blog is all set for a better search engine visibility and ranking.
