Internet Marketing Advice

Most webmasters believe that all the benefits of search engines and internet are given to the top ranking website. Why? Because this is the website who gets clicked first. And it is presumed that the click will end up in conversion then later on in sales. However, internet searches are not as easy as this. Basically because online users are not the same individuals. Not all of them will purchase on the first click.

It is crucial then that you understand the varied behavior of online users. This is to ensure that you will be able to focus your website’s optimisation on addressing different behaviors. There are difference search behaviors and most likely they will be classified as these:

  • Research/Query – this type of search intends to get information from the internet. An online user may click on the first listing and if he finds what he is looking for, he may no longer click on the other listings. This is an advantage to the top website.

  • Purchase – this type of search intends to purchase something from the internet. The user may browse more than a single website to get as many options as possible.

  • Browse – this type of search is just mere surfing – there is no particular intention.

It is important that you understand that internet search is not a linear process. Not all searches lead to conversion or sales. If your website does not contain the information that the online user is looking for, it will be abandoned even if it is on the top position in the search results.

As a search engine optimiser, you must come to know that search engine optimisation is not all about top positions. If you are one of those web marketers who are obsessed with top ranks, you may be ignoring other vital elements of your website like quality web content and optimized web design.

SEO Based On Search Behavior

Search behaviors must be considered in planning out an SEO campaign. It should be incorporated in the SEO strategies that you will use. Even in the choice of keywords for which to optimise your website, search behaviors must still be given taken into account. If you do, you will be able to successfully optimise your website in such a way that it addresses all types of searches or queries.

Search behavior may still change. There is nothing permanent on the internet. But as long as you take it into consideration when you plan your SEO campaign, you can be sure that you will be able to produce more successful websites.
