A good website is one that loads fast. Both the search engines and the online users appreciate websites that load fast. Because of this, some web designers become obsess with the speed of loading that they refuse to add any other web design element in the website other than content or text.

But do you know that you can actually use other elements like colours and graphics in your web design? It’s just that you have to know how to use them wisely in the website. Here are some web design tips to help you out:

  • Resolution

  • Although there is no doubt that white background and black text works best in web pages, you can also try other colours. There is no problem with using a bit of colour in the web pages. Just make sure you don’t use colours that are eye tiring and striking. Also check the appearance of the page on different resolutions to ensure that your web pages will look good for all types of resolution.

Some texts become difficult to read when viewed in a lesser resolution. So make sure the web pages you design will be readable even if a site visitor uses a low resolution screen.

  • Text

  • When adding text on the web page, always use heading, spaces, bullets and other elements that can separate the text. Having a block of text makes reading hard for the site visitors. It is important that the page appears light to read. The same load of information can appear light to read when separated in short paragraphs.

  • Graphics

  • Don’t restrict your web page with graphics. Although you might have read web design guru’s advices to refrain from using graphics, it doesn’t mean you have to do away with it. If there is a need for graphics, you can use them as long as you make them search engine and site visitor friendly.

The only thing that makes graphics unadvisable for web pages is their size and loading speed. The solution is to reduce the colour and size of the graphics. This will make it easy for them to load. If you are adding animations, make sure you reduce the number of frames.

Web design elements like colour, graphics and animations need not be avoided at all times. As long as you know how to make them fast to load, they will even make the website more attractive. The key is to use these web design elements effectively.
