There can be an overwhelming number of web marketing techniques that aim to increase a website’s online sales. One less promoted way is the use of metrics. There are five metrics that can help webmasters increase their sales. Metrics can help webmasters identify which among the site visitors are converted, which among the products sell best and other information relevant in improving online sales of a website.

There are five metrics that need to be analyzed. These metrics will pave the way to a better online sales:

  • Abandonment

  • Who has abandoned your website? You should track the potential loss of your website in terms of conversion. How many website visitors have reached your website but left without even browsing the other pages? What is the percentage of the visitors who have abandoned your website? You should also track the ratio of the abandoned carts to the completed purchase. This will help you identify which products need to be marketed better.

  • Conversion Rate

  • Identify the percentage of site visitors who have made a purchase or have signed up for your services. This is important to gauge whether you are getting good returns in your online business. You should also compute the cost per conversion. To get this, get the marketing cost divided by the number of sales.

  • Repeated Purchase

  • Repeated purchases refer to the customers who made a repeat purchase on the website after conversion. Information on repeated purchase is vital since marketing on repeated customers is less costly and easier to achieve.

  • Customer Retention

  • Track down your repeated customers and continue to market on them to ensure they remain loyal on your products and services. Customer retention marketing is easy to achieve since the customer has already proven the effectiveness of the products and services that you offer. You can further enhance retention through cross-selling, discounts and other freebies.

  • Customer Source

  • Where did your customers and site visitors came from? Determine the source of the site visitors whether it is a search engine, a blog site or another website. This will help you market your website on the source, thereby, generating more traffic and potential customers to your website.

These metrics, when tracked and analyzed, will help webmasters devise better web marketing strategies to further increase online sales. By identifying who your customers are, where they came from, the conversion and retention percentages, it will be easy to target your customers.
