When talking about web design and web development, terms like Java and HTML are always in the forefront. What is Java and what is HTML? How do they differ from each other? Because they are always mentioned together, some people get confused with the two. Thus, it is better to put a clear distinction between Java and HTML.

What Is HTML?

HTML or Hypertext Mark-Up Language is a web language that is used in formatting text. Most web pages make use of HTML codes. It is static and can be done even by less savvy web people. It uses codes to present texts or website content in a readable way. It is the most basic web mark-up language to use in web development.

A web page using the right HTML codes can be viewed perfectly by online users. HTML is consist of tags – short codes typed into a text file. An HTML file can be viewed through a browser; however, web pages are displayed differently in various browsers.

What Is Java?

Java is a programming language that is also coined as the full featured web language. It is basically used to create stand alone programs. Java makes it possible to run one program on different operating systems. The language is a bit complex and requires learning to master its usage.

It offers Java Applets which can be viewed through a browser with Java Virtual Machine or JVM. Java Applets makes a web page more dynamic and interactive. Although the fact is that not all browsers cater to Java Applets plug-ins.

HTML Vs Java

There are some main differences between HTML and Java. First is that HTML is a simple to use web language while Java is a complex yet learnable language. Second, HTML has limited programming potentials while Java is already a full featured web language. Third, HTML shows the relationship between the text and other documents while Java is a programming language meant for writing software.

While some may contest that web languages are basically just the same, there are still few basic differences between them. Although HTML and Java are both web languages used in website development, they have different purposes and usage.

There is a thick line that separates these two languages. It is almost just like saying black and white. They are both colours but they are entirely different. Just because they are always mentioned together doesn’t mean they are basically the same. The same thing goes for HTML and Java.

HTML and Java are web languages used in website development. Need an expert’s help in building your site’s online presence? Please see our Website Services or you can apply for our Free Website Analysis. For more information, please contact our Online Specialists.
