Search engine optimisation (SEO) is crucial for higher search engine ranking and increasing targeted traffic. Because SEO is something that a website can’t live without, more and more techniques are being created. Every website is trying to get advantage of SEO, thus, they are willing to do just anything to be noticed by the search engines and the online users.

Search engine optimisation is said to wear hats. We are all familiar with the white hat and black hat search engine optimisation techniques. Many SEO resources tell us to use white hat techniques and avoid black hat techniques at all times. What is the difference between the white hat SEO and black hat SEO?

White Hat SEO Vs Black Hat SEO

White hat search engine optimisation refers to the search engine friendly optimisation techniques. It revolves around SEO strategies that have something to do with the content, design, and links. White hat SEO urges websites to add relevant, quality and optimised website content on the website. It also encourages valid linking.

Black hat search engine optimisation refers to the techniques that are abhorred by the search engines. It uses strategies that are considered “illegal” by the search engine laws. These techniques include link farms, keyword stuffing, and other search engine tricks. The effect of black hat SEO is short term. It can get a website on the top of the search results easily but once the search engines know about it, it will be penalized just as easily.

The Other SEO Hat – Gray?

What is considered as the Gray hat SEO? These are the techniques that can be dodgy yet rewarding. These techniques are for those web marketers who are willing to take the risk of getting a red-flag response from the search engines, although they are actually not against the rules of the search engines.

As what most web marketing experts urge you to do, stick to the white hat SEO techniques. With these techniques, you can never go wrong. Yes you will have loads of work using the white hat SEO techniques, but the results are all worth your efforts. It is a long term investment for your online business.

There may be times wherein you have to wear the gray hat, but if you don’t like the idea of taking risks with your website, just stick to the white hat. In every search engine optimisation endeavour, never forget to avoid any black hat technique!

Always use white hat SEO for long term benefits. Need to optimise your website for the search engines and your target market? Please see our SEO Services. We use purely white hat SEO. For more information, please contact our SEO Experts.
