Internet Marketing Advice

Search engine optimisation can take your website to the top of Google search result. SEO is not limited to keywords, content and design alone. A smart search engine optimiser should also take into consideration the factors that may affect a website’s standing on the search engines like Google.

Google is one of the most powerful search engines today. It has the ability to take your website to the peak of its success. A good Google ranking is almost synonymous with website traffic and online sales. As much as possible, websites should remain impressive in the eyes of Google. A simple mistake may result in banning of your website in Google.

The Reasons Behind Website Banning

Being banned on a search engine especially Google is the last thing any website would even think of. How can you still have traffic and sales if your website doesn’t appear on the most trafficked search engine?

The most common reason why some websites are banned from Google is duplicate content. Some webmasters purchase two or more domain names and place the same content on all the domains. They do this to ensure that they will receive traffic. Whichever domain the online user land on, they will still get the same content.

This may be a smart move but not for the search engines. Google considers this as a spam and it abhors duplicate content. Google aims to provide the online users with relevant, original and spam free results. Thus, it bans websites with multiple domains and with duplicate content. It even bans some websites with no intention of spamming the search results.

To avoid duplicate content issues arising from multiple domain names, webmasters can use a 301 redirect. This is one way of telling Google and the other search engines to ignore the other domains and focus on one domain alone. This will help websites pass through the shadows of duplicate content. You should tell the search engines right away; otherwise, your website will suffer the consequence of being perceived as having duplicate content.

Webmasters have many reasons for having multiple domain names. It isn’t always for the purpose of spamming the Google search result. A webmaster just needs to have a good domain name management. If you purchase multiple domain names, redirect the other domains to your main website to avoid duplicate content issues. If you aren’t spamming the search results, don’t let Google ban you. The key is 301 redirect.

Proper domain management is a vital factor in search engine optimisation. Need to optimise your website for Google? Please see our SEO Services or you can apply for our Free SEO Analysis. For more information, please contact our SEO Specialists.
